We are excited to share that the CYCLE-IN – Cycling for Inclusion and Empowerment project has officially started! Partners from Romania, Spain, and Belgium recently came together for the project’s kick-off meeting, marking the beginning of a new and inspiring journey into inclusive outdoor activities.
Across Europe, visually impaired and blind young people still face many barriers in accessing sports and outdoor experiences. Cycling, freedom of movement, and outdoor adventure are often taken for granted, yet for many, these opportunities remain out of reach. With CYCLE-IN, we want to change that, or at least to put our “hands” together to encourage and inspire.
During our kick-off meeting, the partner teams met for the first time as a project family. We shared ideas, expectations, and motivation, and shaped a common vision: creating inclusive tandem cycling programmes that open outdoor spaces to everyone. The energy was high, the discussions inspiring, and the shared enthusiasm confirmed that we are ready to build something meaningful together.
And yes, we are ready to start this.
The project brings together complementary experience:
- Asociatia Babilon Travel (Romania) with strong background in inclusive youth work
- Velorecicla (Spain) with hands-on expertise in community cycling initiatives
- VIEWS International (Belgium) with experience in disability inclusion and advocacy
Together, we will develop training activities for youth workers, test inclusive tandem cycling methods, and create a Practical Guide to Inclusive Cycling — a tool that will help organisations across Europe introduce tandem programmes for visually impaired and blind participants.
The kick-off meeting was an important step. It allowed us to align our goals, plan upcoming activities, and most importantly, connect as a team that believes in inclusion through action.
The road ahead includes two international trainings, new methodologies, shared learning, and plenty of pedaling, but always together.
Our CYCLE-IN journey has officially begun. Stay around!
