Putting Inclusion into Practice: CYCLE-IN Training in Spain

From 12 to 14 May 2026, youth workers and professionals from Romania, Spain, and Belgium came together in Agres, Spain, for the second training activity of the Cycling for Inclusion and Empowerment (CYCLE-IN) project. Hosted by Velorecicla, the training “Inclusive Cycling: The Practice” focused on transforming ideas into real experiences through inclusive tandem cycling.

Building on the knowledge gained during the first training held in Romania, participants had the opportunity to develop practical skills and experience first-hand how cycling can become a powerful tool for inclusion, well-being, and active participation for young people with visual impairments.

Set in the beautiful natural surroundings of the Sierra de Mariola, the training combined outdoor learning, group activities, and practical sessions with tandem bicycles. Participants worked together on communication and coordination between pilot and co-pilot, explored accessible route planning, and discussed how to adapt activities to different needs while ensuring safety and participation for everyone.

One of the highlights of the training was the full-day cycling experience in nature, where participants could apply what they had learned and strengthen trust, teamwork, and confidence. The programme also included workshops on basic bicycle maintenance and opportunities to reflect on how inclusive cycling initiatives can be introduced in their own communities.

Beyond the practical skills acquired, the training created a space where participants with and without visual impairments learned from one another, shared experiences, and built stronger connections across countries and organisations.

The activity represented another important step in the development of the CYCLE-IN project and will contribute to the creation of the project’s methodological guide, which aims to support other organisations interested in promoting accessible outdoor activities and inclusive mobility.

The Cycling for Inclusion and Empowerment (CYCLE-IN) project is implemented by Asociația Babilon Travel (Romania), Velorecicla (Spain), and VIEWS International (Belgium), with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
